See the General. The locomotive that started the great locomotive chase. It's beautiful and excellently maintained. The civil war collection here is wonderful. Also the train displays are great. This place is really nice, larger than it looks. Great for kids and adults. If you haven't been here and you like history or trains, this is a must.
Seeing "The General" locomotive was great. Lovely Museum. Teared up at some of the war memorabilia. Didn't see the "Venus" statue donated by France. Forgot to ask about it before I left. Fun for children also apparently. Had a nice visit.
This is a great museum with an excellent collection of Civil War and train historical exhibits and photos. Lots of artifacts from the battlefield and also from day to day life during the war, leading up to the centerpieces, a recreated locomotive factory (with the original machinery and tooling) and "The General" locomotive. Every exhibit is well described, making for a very interesting and educational experience. Highly recommended for anyone interested in trains or Civil War history, it history in general.
Home of "The General", the great locomotive chase engine, this museum makes history fun. The kids were enthralled, and the adults had an equally good time. This museum has great information about steam engines and how they were made, with life sized dioramas. They have a well-produced and acted movie about the great locomotive chase, without making a political statement. All in all a great time, and one I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the civil war or trains.
Wonderful place with great exhibits! The story of the civil war chase involving the locomotive General Lee was extremely interesting! Nice to see bits of history being preserved.
